December Lesson Plan

Scooter Day
Warm Up

Scooter Boards
Go over the safety rules—Never stand on the scooter on the board.  Keep your fingers off the floor.  Always make sure to look where you are going.
Have students try holding the handles and just moving themselves with their feet.  After they have the hang of it, break them into partners.
Send one partner and one scooter board to one side of the room with a plunger.  Tell them they have to use just the plunger to make their way over to their partner.  Once they do, have them switch who is on the board and see if they can make it on the way back.
Give each team a hula hoop and see if they can pull each other around like the reindeer pull Santa’s sleigh.

Cool Down—Do a piggy back version of Ring around the Rosie.  Change the ending so that it is just not fall down.  Here are the lyrics:  Ring around the Christmas tree, pocket full of holly, presents, presents, we all sit down (hop up, turn around, etc could be put in its place)

 Parachute Day
Warm Up

Play a variety of parachute games—adapt as needed for each class
Merry-Go-Round: Children turn their bodies sideways and hold the chute with one hand. They then walk around in a circle, making a "Merry-Go-Round." For variety, children can hop, skip, jump, etc. You can stop music as a cue to reverse and go the other direction.
Change Up: Call out names, colors, ages, etc, and those children swap places under the chute before it falls, and run to an empty space.
Snow Storm: Place all the yarn balls in the center of the parachute and yell “Snowball fight”.  Have them shake as hard as they can.  When all the balls have been shaken off, stop to “reload”
Shoe Shuffle (Best for 4’s and 5’s):  Have some students take off one shoe and throw it under the parachute. On the count of three, raise the chute, and the designated children have to run under and find their shoe before the chute comes down.

Christmas Exercise Stations
Warm Up

Tell the kids that we are going to do different Christmas exercise.  We will do each one for a minute while we listen to some music.  When the music stops, I will show them a new card and we will do that exercise for 30 seconds.  If needed you can do some of the cards more than once.
